Performance Test

Here's a quick test I did yesterday at uni, the timing is off in places but y'know, I'm happy with it!

Baseball Animation

There comes a point when you remember that you claim to be an animator and then realise there's actually very little animation on your blog.

So here's my first shot for the baseball project we're doing at university.

Gravity Falls Addiction.

Here's part of a drawing I did of my housemates as Gravity Falls characters, this is Seb and Iona. I did this about a month ago when I was on a serious Gravity Falls kick one weekend and watched the first season at least three times. I'll get round to finishing and colouring it when I get a spare moment.
Also, here's some really quick layout studies I did from watching the show. The style is gorgeous!

Cold? Psh.

I am literally the cosiest I have ever been after opening the package that arrived from my parents this morning. - Hint that you're freezing - get tons of cosy clothes - Lovely.

Cheers Mum and Dad!

Baseball

All the prop and model making for my part of the baseball project is pretty much done now..

(Stop-Motion) Steve is excited.

Next challenge: testing and finished animation by thursday.

Eek.

Prop Sculpting

These little guys are the first props I've made for the film I'm currently working on, it's been pretty cool taking them all the way from initial concept to actual production.

Silhouettes

Here's a quick 15-minute piece from tonight:
Just trying to figure out some poses for a potential background character.. As you can see I'm going for all the obvious stereotypes with this guy.

Sculpting Day

Today was awesome.

I spent the day working on my lil dude for the baseball exercise we're doing at uni.
Granted, I ended up going a little backwards - my model from last week had his arms, legs, mouth, and head removed at different points throughout the day. But now he's stronger, more flexible and ready to animate!

Complete with two sets of replaceable arms, and about seven different "OO" "B" and smile mouth shapes.

Also, here's a prototype I made for the set earlier this week:

119 Faces..

..That's how many I've drawn today in life-drawing sessions!

Today I attempted to work in the style of this really awesome character designer from Laika - Jesse Aclin, I've been admiring his work on instagram for a while now. Granted, my drawings really lack in a number of ways compared to his awesome natural style, but I still had fun! It's definitely a style I'm going to try and work into my own drawings :-)

Most of these drawings are of my class-mates, rather than the models, but they pull some brilliant faces when they're drawing!

They're all in dip-pen and ink..

Friday 25 October 2013

What a load of bulls.

Here's some stuff I've been working on (in Photoshop) these past two weeks:

They were a lot of fun to create, hopefully they will both go all the way into actual production and I'll be able to make them into actual 3D props for the background of the stop-motion film I'm working on :-)

Sugar Over-Dose.

Today I made cupcakes with a friend for a project she's doing at uni.

It was all going fine and dandy until she left..

I guess that's what several spoons of cake mix, three cupcakes, a couple of spoonfuls of icing and two cups of tea do to you..

No more cake, please.

Wednesday 7 August 2013

A little something I actually finished!

Here's something I started and actually finished! *dance* - I admit, this doesn't happen nearly as often as it should.

So, about a week ago I watched Coraline for the first time, and I absolutely loved it. Laika are incredible, but you already knew that. Anyway, she pulls this really awesome pose (really early on in the film). And I was so taken by how great the acting was in this pose that I roughed it out (admittedly it doesn't look much like her)

Which I left in a corner of one of my many sheets of paper on my desk for a few days, but then I found myself sketching out ideas for a new Twitter icon and this pose creeped back into my drawings..

Thus, I ended up scanning it in, twiddling around with it on Photoshop and getting totally wrapped up in the line drawing (above), that I just had to colour it. Though I like the line-drawing slightly more :-)
But hey, I actually finished a personal piece! Even in my current lazy summer holiday state!

Saturday 20 July 2013

Some dooodless.

Here's a bunch of pages from my sketchbook, of things I've been doodling during the first month of my summer holidays (Mainly trees and heads). Using dip-pen and ink, Artline fine-liners and blue pencils..

I started working on an idea for a layout/illustration based on 'Summer' but never followed it through to the end - maybe it's because it's too heavily inspired from my FMP work from last year.

Pretty sure that tent in the top right corner is inspired by one in 'The Emperor's New Groove'.

I *might* have been watching Scott Pilgrim...?

Also, just the beginnings of a head.

Tuesday 16 July 2013

I'm as chuffed as a...

Cheesecake!
(..Since I've heard they're often a pretty pleased sort of cake.)

Because I finally found a Coca-Cola bottle with my name on it!

..Oh yeah, and also because I passed my first year of animation.

Bring on the second year! And also maybe some cheesecake, please.

Wednesday 10 July 2013

Here's a bird.

Nicked from my previous post, but this heat is making it difficult to sleep!

Late night animal doodles

So I watched Disney's 'The Emperor's New Groove' at 2am the other day, and it put me in the mood to draw animals. That giraffe was actually intended to be a llama - then I realised I wasn't actually sure what a llama looked like off the top of my head (and Kuzco in his llama form is a bit kooky looking as llamas go!).

Yeah, don't give me that look, zebra.

Monday 1 July 2013

Tennis head-gear.

Watching the tennis (on television) has really given me something that I enjoy drawing. And given that my Dad keeps stating exactly what he thinks of "grown-men who wear their caps backwards", I got to doodling some of the sorts of head-gear tennis players wear..

(Not supposed to be any tennis player(s) in particular)

Thus, more digital colouring-in..

Wednesday 26 June 2013

Wimbledon

In three short days I've become absolutely hooked on tennis like never before, and since it's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of sport I thought I'd practice drawing some of the movements. I also added some colour digitally..

So, for the next week and a half my posts about tennis will probably be numerous.. Particularly if Andy Murray survives to the final :-)

Saturday 22 June 2013

I ate too much today

Had a lovely day with my aunt and cousin at my old primary school's summer fĂȘte.
I figured sketching out my summer days out is a good excuse to draw, so here's a little rough sketch of part of my day diary.

It's my 7-year-old cousin eating a hotdog (just part of the large amount of food we consumed today).

Thursday 20 June 2013

The degree sure is paying off...

Somehow I always manage to get roped into doing 'artistic' things for members of my family. Tonight's endeavour was none other than a icing-sugar cake-topper replica of the school that my Mum works at to celebrate 60 years of the school occupying the building - apparently there's always a reason for cake!

Nightmare. "Do a lovely painting of it in food colouring" - was the direction of my Mum. Simple. Urgh, totally not my thing, I knew it'd end up a wishy-washy mess and whenever I agree (I use the word 'agree' lightly, I definitely don't remember being given a choice in this one!) to do something, the perfectionist in me always comes out.

Also, I saw it as an opportunity to work on my line-drawing skills to some extent.

Which was all fun and games until I looked up and realised it was 10pm and I needed both sleep and to get this done for my Mum for tomorrow.

So there it is ^ As mentioned before I claim to be a perfectionist, and it irks me strongly how there's some very obvious faults in it. But it's going to be eaten in less than 24 hours, and as fun as the first 4 hours of sugar paste and icing is, it starts to wear thin when you've got sugar in your hair, I'm now a sticky sleepy young animation student. It's almost 2am, so, time for bed Zebedee!

Also, this was the mess I left for my Mum to clean up tomorrow as payment..

Only joking, it's squeaky clean. Not a sticky surface in sight :-)

Sunday 2 June 2013

So, it's finally done..

Pretty much, though I'll probably stay up 'til 11pm building up more shadows and stuff.

But it's gone from this..

Via this..

Finally, to this:

Saturday 1 June 2013

Getting excited..

Because basically, I've started adding colour into my layout, and now I'm just tweaking and cleaning it up and attempt to get rid of that fluffy/blurry quality that the first brush I used gave me. But it's cool when something in your head starts to become a reality. There are still major flaws in this piece but for a first attempt, I'm pretty happy.

(A little bit of the final layout)

Also, last night I read the whole of Kick-Ass (1) and it was pretty damn cool, so now I just wanna read more comic books and draw my own and shizz - bring on the first day of the summer break!
